Gallstones, also known as gallbladder stones or cholelithiasis, are hardened deposits that form in the gallbladder. They are typically made up of cholesterol and bilirubin.

  • Stones in the Gall Bladder in patients, doesn’t always require surgery and infact, surgery is not required for asymptomatic gallstone.
  • Gall Stone causing recurrant pain in right upper abdomen, stone causing obstruction/perforation of gall bladder requires urgent surgery.
  • The migration of Gall Bladder stone downward to bile duct, requires removal of stone through endoscopy named ERCP.
  • Gall Bladder stone in patients with advanced age has a high risk and needs to be done at a better-equipped center.
  • Gall Bladder Stones are more common in obese, female and above 40 years of age.
  • Laparoscopic Gall Bladder removal is the treatment of choice in most cases of symptomatic Gall Stone.
